CREST Hints & Tips

Below you'll find handy hints and tips we have put together based on our most frequently asked questions. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you require further information. CONTACT US

  • Get in contact with your Local Coordinator to find out about doing CREST Awards if you're a student, teacher or educator. Your CREST Coordinator can advise on project suitability and level of award.
  • Register and upload your Discovery and Bronze Projects directly to the CREST website. Ask your CREST Local Coordinator about Silver and Godl registrations.
  • Register your Discovery and Bronze Award projects and students free online using the my.crest digital platform. Your project titles and student names can be removed, added and edited, until you’re happy with which students have completed the award and with the project titles.
  • Enter your registration email using lower case letters (the site doesn’t recognise emails with a combination of lower and uppercase letters).
  • Take a look at the instructions on the spreadsheet uploader on how to upload a spreadsheet of the students names. The file needs to be converted to a CSV format. There are instructions on the spreadsheet and helpful Help Centre article here.
  • Submit samples of project work for Discovery and Bronze Awards (2-3 examples are fine for any size of cohort).
  • Allow plenty of time for certificates to be processed after the payment has been received. It can take up to 4 weeks for the certificates to be processed and posted to school.
  • Identify your project payment to the British Science Association by including the project ID, reference number or school name in the reference part of a bank transfer.
  • Celebrate the achievements of young people achieving CREST Awards!

  •  Use the old style of paper registration for Discovery and Bronze Award projects.
  • Confirm the registration and ask for the invoice until you’re sure all the information is correct. It is extremely difficult to make changes after you request the invoice, so it is best to double check information.
  • Use a combination of lower and upper case letters when entering your email. At present the site is not recognising email addresses that have either a) a mix of capital and lower case letters and b) an email ‘stem’ longer than 5 letters e.g. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The British Science Association are currently getting this fixed, but unfortunately in the meantime teachers will have to use another email address.
  • Hesitate to get in touch if you would like advice or guidance on the new CREST registration system at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
  • Submit project work for each student (2-3 examples are fine for any size of cohort).
  • Leave it too near the end of term of for a special achievement assembly to register, submit and arrange payment for the awards.
  • Pay the registration fee by BACs without identifying where the payment is from. Unidentified payments can cause delays with certificates being issued.
